The Gallery Dames Arthur Lucan (Old Mother Riley) Arthur Lucan created the character of the Irish washerwoman, Old Mother Riley when the Dame in a small Dublin pantomime was indisposed, and Lucan took over the part as 'Little Jack Horner's' mother. By 1925 along with his wife and partner he appeared in major Theatres as 'Old Mother Riley and her daughter, Kitty' - A sketch known as 'Bridget's Night Out' A career in films followed. Lucan died in the wings of the Tivoli Theatre, Hull in 1954. |
